Support and student welfare
You are our number one priority. At Oxford Area School we pride ourselves in providing a high level of professional and pastoral support to all of our international students. Our Homestay Coordinator will meet you at the airport on arrival. Our International Dean will help you with your academic and school needs.
Orientation
When you arrive at the school, you will attend a programme of orientation and get advice on your course of study. You will have an English test on arrival so we can place you in an appropriate English course.
Homestay
Carefully selected home stay families host all students, and the Homestay Coordinator is always available to help and guide you starting life in a new culture and new environment. You will have 24/7 contact with the Homestay Coordinator. International students are welcomed into our small community and encouraged to become part of it. Homestays are either in the village or on lifestyle blocks or surrounding farms.
Code of Practice
Oxford Area School is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. The Code can be downloaded from here http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/providers-partners/caring-for-international-students/
ESOL programme
You will receive appropriate English Language (ESOL) assistance according to your needs established through initial and on-going testing by qualified staff. Each student arrives in New Zealand with different language knowledge and abilities. The department has specialised individual programs to support your learning both in and out of the classroom.

Equine studies, hosted by an outside provider, is possible to take in the holiday breaks in April, July and September.
Facilities
Oxford Area School has gone through a major rebuild so there is a new purpose built buildings incorporating the latest in teaching technology and ideas. We have extensive sports fields and we are surrounded by the large village showgrounds. We have the usual specialist teaching spaces that you would find in much larger city schools.

How to apply.
Once you are ready to apply to study at Oxford Area School, please do the following:
Read the International Policies and Procedures Document and the summary of the Code of Practice for Pastoral Care of International Students
1. Fill out and sign the Primary Student and Secondary Student Contracts (must be signed by student and parents)
2. Send the signed International Application and Tuition Agreement either:

We will let you know by email that we have received your application and we will consider it as soon as possible.
Successful applicants will be issued an invoice for fees and an Offer of Place.
You can then apply for your student visa.

- A copy of your passport
- Your most recent school report (with a brief explanation in English)
- A letter of recommendation from the Principal or a teacher at your most recent school (in English)
