Oxford & Christchurch

Our Town

Welcome to Oxford!

We are located in Oxford, just 40 minutes north of Christchurch or 25 minutes from the town of Rangiora, in a growing semi-rural area. Traditionally Oxford was an agricultural service village but it is now the heart of a much more diverse community of farmers, small lifestyle block dwellers and city commuters.

The Southern Alps, Mount Oxford, Oxford Forest and rivers are all close to our village which is found on the northern Canterbury Plains, meaning there are a wide range of outdoor recreational opportunities on our doorstep. Cycling, mountain biking, climbing, hiking, fishing, horse riding, skiing and farm activities like quad biking and shooting, are just some of the activities you can easily participate in here.

It has a vibrant village centre surrounded by farms, pasture and great natural scenery. The township has a Post Office, Kiwi Bank, Supermarket, Pharmacy, Dairy and Butcher.

There are also 3 cafes, an art gallery, and 2 gift shops and a local craft cooperative selling hand made goods; clothing, knitting and preserves, candles and honey.
The Oxford community offers a number of local sports clubs (cricket, soccer, rugby, badminton, squash, tennis, and dance) and also evening groups for Tai Chi, Zumba classes, Pilates etc.

Our Surrounds

Christchurch is New Zealand's second-largest city.

With a population of 450,000, it is the gateway to the South Island. Found on the east coast of the South Island, bordered by hills and the Pacific Ocean, it is situated on the edge of the Canterbury Plains that stretch to the Southern Alps.

There is no-where else in the world within two hours of an international airport that you can ski at a world-class alpine resort, play golf, bungy jump, river raft, jet boat, mountain bike, ride in a hot-air balloon, wind surf, whale watch and swim with the dolphins.

Summers (December-February) are generally mild and sunny with low humidity. Winter (June-August) features frosts on brisk mornings and clear calm days. Autumn (March-May) often has the longest period of settled weather and for garden lovers the city puts on an especially fine show in spring (September-November).
