Education is one of the most important gifts we can give our children.
Oxford Area School is committed to providing a quality education for all our students.
My vision for Oxford Area School is for it to be an exciting place where learning is the priority for all - students, staff and the community - a place where everyone is motivated to learn. Our aim is to produce confident, connected life long learners prepared to face the challenges of any environment they may find themselves in. We aim for our graduates to be well motivated, reliable, able to relate well to others, critical thinkers, informed decision makers and effective users of the communication tools available in the 21st century.
We aim to have our young people actively involved and contributing to the well being of the society that they live in. We work hard to identify the needs of all our students and to work with students and their families to enable them to meet their potential.
We are skilled at measuring students’ success and reporting this to parents and future employers.
We aim to develop commonly held values in our students and to work in partnerships between the school and parents in the best interests of our students. We create many opportunities for our students to be involved in a wide range of activities – sporting, cultural and academic – and we are proud of our students’ achievements in these areas.
We aim to have small class sizes throughout the school enabling teachers to spend more individual time with students.
A special feature of our school is its family atmosphere. We are proud to be an Area School, having students from Year 1 – 13. This strengthens the “family feeling” within the school where younger children can be supported by older brothers and sisters. It also allows us to work towards providing a seamless education with continuity and sharing of knowledge about the development of our students across traditional school boundaries, i.e. from Year 6 to Year 7 and from Year 8 to Year 9.
We provide supportive and professional pastoral care for all our students from Year 1 to Year 13. A strong network of class teachers, Form Teachers, Deans, a Guidance Counsellor and Careers Adviser encourages all students to reach their potential in a warm and caring environment which is student centred and where every pupil is regarded as important.
We are well equipped to face the challenges of using technologies in educational programmes in the 21st century. We foster students’ acquisition of independent learning skills and their ability to assess and use information. Our school is networked with modern computer equipment with all students having computer and intranet access.
Interactive whiteboards are being used in classes and video conferencing is being used to put students
on- line with other schools and institutions.
We prioritise creating leadership opportunities for students at all levels with a STARS programme at Yr 9 led by senior students, a COOL Schools (peer mediation) programme running throug
hout the school and a House system where House Leaders organise and promote inter-House activities.
A Safer Schools group of students, parents and staff work towards creating a safe environment for all our students.
An eLearning Leader works with a cluster of 11 schools including Oxford Area School to promote and develop the use of new technologies and software.
Should you have any further enquiries please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
